Mercedes Mone has told the story behind one of the best matches of her WWE career.
Prior to her run in AEW and on the main roster, the former Sasha Banks firmly put herself and her rival Bayley on the map with their work in NXT. In 2015 at TakeOver Brooklyn, the stars of the developmental brand put on another stellar show that outshone SummerSlam the next night.
On that night in Brooklyn, Bayley defeated Banks to win the NXT Women’s Championship in what is still regarded as one of the greatest women’s matches of all time nearly 10 years later.
In the latest edition of her Mone Mag, Mercedes Mone gave more insight into the match and admitted that there was zero preparation time heading into the contest. However, The CEO also added that if they did prepare, it might not have been as good:
“One Great match I had with ZERO prep between my opponent and me was the one at NXT Takeover in Brooklyn with Bayley. At the time, I was on the road full-time with so little time. In addition, I had to do a panel with Triple H two hours before the doors even opened. I was also coming straight from Smackdown or Raw, so I didn’t even get to work out in the ring with Bayley. We only had maybe five minutes to talk about our match in the ring. I wanted to tell her about this crazy spot.
In truth, I didn’t even want to practice with her or show her the spot because I was afraid that they were going to tell me no, or that the boys were going to see it and that they were going to take it away. Yes, that happens. So, I just kind of told her what I wanted to do. As I said, we didn’t get to rehearse it or any other move. However, that match turned out to be the greatest women’s match ever.”
Mercedes Mone Looks Back On Vince McMahon Confrontation
While in WWE, Mone recalled an instance where a circumstance out of her control brought a match to a premature end. In a previous edition of her Mag, Mercedes Mone recalled speaking to Vince McMahon following the botch.
Also in the Mag, Mercedes Mone commented on her previous match with Stephanie Vaquer.
