Mercedes Mone Responds After Being Called “The Female Dean Ambrose”

Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone is currently riding high after cementing her status as one of the top female wrestlers in the world.

After finally leaving WWE, the star formerly known as Sasha Banks, debuted with NJPW at Wrestle Kingdom 17 where she laid down a challenge to IWGP Women’s Champion KAIRI. A month later, Mone defeated KAIRI to claim the gold at Battle in the Valley.

Mone recently made the first defence of her title, overcoming Hazuki and STARDOM’s High-Speed Champion AZM in a frenetic Three-Way Match.

However, there wasn’t much time to celebrate as she was quickly challenged by Mayu Iwatani. The match between the pair will take place at STARDOM’s All Star Grand Queendom on April 23rd.

In a press conference to hype the match, Mone pulled out a small guitar and mockingly performed a song she called “Mayu Sucks.”

As the clip began to make its way around social media one fan said it proved that the star was the “female Dean Ambrose.” Many took this as a reference to the end of Jon Moxley’s time in WWE where he took part in a number of increasingly comedic angles. The fan later claimed the reference was to Moxley and Mone both being worse off after leaving WWE.

The IWGP Women’s Champion has now responded, saying she’s more like a female version of The Rock.

Mercedes Mone Hints At AEW Appearance

Interestingly, it has been reported that Mercedes Mone isn’t booked for any more appearances in Japan beyond the show on April 23rd. This has sparked speculation that the star could then head to AEW. Mone has been linked with AEW ever since it became clear that she was leaving WWE in 2022.

The star even recently hinted at an appearance at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II on June 25th.
