Mercedes Mone has shared her life’s missions as her New Year’s resolutions.
Regarded as a part of the four horsewomen of WWE, Mercedes Mone aka Sasha Banks was one of the integral reasons behind WWE Women’s evolution. Helping Bayley, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte Flair bring more focus to the women’s division, Mone now wants to enhance it.
Writing in her Mone Mag newsletter, the CEO opened up about her New Year’s resolutions before terming it as her life’s mission. The current TBS and NJPW Strong Women’s Champion hopes to bring more “advance opportunities for women in wrestling and for women in all sports.”
This new year, I want to continue to expand awareness and opportunities for female wrestlers and female athletes in general, globally. When my Advocate, Kev Undergaro, called saying the NY Post wanted a quote from the CEO regarding my New Year’s resolutions, I was caught off guard. My mind was in ten different places between the holidays, our PPV, and commitments. I just blurted out the first thing that came to mind.
Other than wanting good health for my brother and my loved ones, I want the same thing I’ve wanted since becoming Mercedes Moné and the CEO. That is, to advance opportunities for women in wrestling and for women in all sports. AND I want to do it on a global level. Call me unoriginal, as that was pretty much my resolution last year. What I’m realizing with age and personal growth is that this is less a New Year’s resolution and more a life’s mission (at least for this period of my life).
I want to see a day when women who main event shows, garnering the same ratings, ticket sales, etc, receive pay, treatment, and consideration equal to the men. And again, I want this for all female athletes in all sports they compete in. If it has to start with pro wrestling, then so be it.
In addition, I want to see all female athletes leverage their fame toward more financial and creative opportunities. I want their dreams to continue into their later years beyond their field of play. I want to see them become entrepreneurs, leaders, role models, and advocates. In short, I want to see more female athletes be the CEO of their own lives.I won’t be able to make the changes and improvements for women in sports in a year. It may take ten years. It may take a lifetime. But it is my passion and a resolution I intend to continue to honor. “
Aware of the hindrances, Mone hopes to continue her work and bring about the necessary changes in the next ten years. A vital benchmark for women in the sports entertainment industry, she is next scheduled to face Mina Shirakawa at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th, 2025.
As well as her life’s mission, Mercedes Mone has a new goal in mind after fulfilling her childhood dream to wrestle in the Tokyo Dome.
Mercedes Mone Reveals Scary Incident Ahead Of Her AEW Worlds End Match
In the same Mone Mag newsletter, Mercedes Mone opened up about a scary situation she had to face, ahead of her Worlds End match against Kris Statlander.
My flight was delayed, disrupting my carefully laid travel schedule. I needed to reach Orlando by Christmas Eve, so I embarked on a grueling 20-hour drive alone. Exhaustion weighed heavily on me, compounded by the lingering effects of a relentless illness. By the time I arrived home, sick and weary, I was grateful for my aunt’s support, who had driven in from Iowa to help with the holiday festivities.
Yet, as the clock ticked down to AEW Worlds End, I felt worse. I reached out to my doctor for advice on managing my illness, and on the day of the event, I was terrified about how I would make it through the show.”
