Mercedes Mone Opens Up About Wrestling Future & Post-Retirement Plans

Mercedes Mone with AEW TBS Championship

Mercedes Mone has addressed the topic of winding down her in-ring career and what her future would look like in wrestling after the final match.

Having found success in WWE, AEW and NJPW by winning championships in all 3 promotions along with standout matches against the likes of Bayley, Charlotte Flair and Willow Nightingale, The CEO has already left a lasting impression in women’s wrestling.

Although Mone has been in the industry for over a decade and has also taken on a number of acting roles, the TBS Champion is not looking at calling time on her wrestling career anytime soon.

Speaking with Katee Sackhoff on The Sackhoff Show, Mone stated that the concept of retirement scares her and is not thinking about that right now, even though the aches and pains may start to catch up:

“That scares me, I don’t want to think about the word retirement but I do think about slowing down because I’ve been doing it for so long. Aches and pains start to catch up and different dreams start to happen. Life starts to grow and I just have so many more dreams that I want to go pursue and chase and go accomplish while I still can, being young and feeling good and having my body feel good.”

Mone also added that she did not have a particular end date in mind for her final match while also expressing interest in remaining in the wrestling world when her time in the ring comes to a close:

“I don’t want to put a time frame of when that exact moment I will slow down, but I know sooner than later, I definitely want to take more time to pursue other things and really set that place of what am I going to do when I’m done wrestling.

What’s going to bring me the most joy, what is my passion, and I still love this business so much so I always want to be a part of it whether that’s being a producer or a coach or just always being involved with that, I really enjoy the process of creating and forming matches and I think I’m really good at that, especially for women. I feel like when I’m done with wrestling, that’s an aspect or avenue that I want to go into. Right now, I’m just on this journey of making women’s wrestling global.”

Continuing her quest to spread the message of women’s wrestling, Mercedes Mone is set to face a former WWE star in her first indie appearance since 2012.

Mercedes Mone Backs AEW Star
