Mercedes Mone Openly Responds To Higher-Up Who Cautioned Her About Joining AEW

Mercedes Mone with AEW TBS Championship

Mercedes Mone has responded to the entity that once cautioned her about AEW.

Parting ways with WWE in 2022, Sasha Banks, aka Mercedes Mone, remained absent from pro-wrestling for nearly a year before making her NJPW debut. After a successful run in Japan, Mone joined Tony Khan’s promotion and made her AEW debut last year.

Since she arrived at the Jacksonville-based promotion in 2024, Mone has emerged as one of the most popular and drawing stars, and has gathered a major fan base. Arguably, as one of the biggest names on the roster, Mercedes Mone recently opened up in Mone Mag newsletter about her All Elite Wrestling run, before responding to a higher-up(who remains unnamed) that cautioned her about joining Khan’s promotion.

“Growing up, WWE was everything to me. I never imagined my life without it. But over time, I’ve come to realize that it’s not WWE I can’t live without; it’s pro wrestling itself. I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the person who sparked this journey for me. Because of that pivotal moment, my life changed for the absolute better.

Not a day goes by that I don’t feel grateful for that decision. It pushed me to new heights, matured me into a strong-willed CEO, and empowered me to take control of my life and future. I’m especially thankful for all my fans who have stood by me throughout this journey.
I want to remind you all: when something doesn’t feel right and you start receiving signs from the universe, listen. I’ve been working on sharing my story, and trust me, when the time comes, it’s going to be one for the books.

I remember a higher-up once telling me, “The grass isn’t greener on the other side.” Well, let me tell you—every seed I’ve planted over the years is growing and flourishing like never before. Becoming the highest-paid women’s wrestler is a beautiful flower that has blossomed, and I couldn’t be prouder.

Keep chasing your dreams because no one will stop mine.”

The CEO is now scheduled to challenge for the CMLL World Women’s Championship at AEW Grand Slam Mexico against Zeuxis on June 18th.

Mercedes Mone Reveals Her AEW Double Or Nothing Favorite Matches

In the same edition of her Mone Mag newsletter, Mercedes Mone revealed two of her favorite matches from the recently concluded Double or Nothing PPV.

“Double or Nothing has to be one of my favorite AEW pay-per-views! It was last year I made my AEW in-ring debut and won the TBS championship. This year was absolutely insane to watch. I felt like a little kid backstage, watching and screaming with excitement. One of the highlights for me was the match between Mina Sharawaki and Toni Storm. Mina is such an incredible addition to our AEW women’s division, bringing charm and a vibrant charisma that lights up the ring.

Another fantastic match was Adam Page versus Will Ospreay, but the one that truly blew my mind was Anarchy in the Arena. How sick and crazy was that match? From the music playing to Willow getting her lick back to the finish sequence of the match. It was pure chaos in the best way possible. I had so much fun watching that match and honestly wished I could have been a fan in the crowd, soaking it all in.

Wrestling is for everybody, and this is the kind of wrestling I love—it’s what makes me feel every emotion.”
