Tony Khan has effectively announced that Mercedes Mone will be on AEW TV in a matter of weeks.
During the February 7th episode of Dynamite, Tony Khan presented the world with his latest big announcement. Earlier in the day, fans spotted an event listing for the TD Garden in Boston on March 13th, with many believing this to be Tony Khan’s announcement and would also be connected to Mone’s debut.
Backstage, Khan announced that AEW will present a Big Business special episode of Dynamite in Boston next month. Described as a very important night for the company and the pro wrestling industry, Khan effectively told the world that Mone would be making an appearance at the event. Additionally, the promotional graphic contains the word “Bo$$ton” alluding to Mone’s nickname in WWE.
The nature of the announcement was very similar to August 2021, which effectively confirmed that CM Punk would be making his AEW debut at the United Center in Chicago. While remaining optimistic about what the future holds for AEW, Tony Khan remains positive and believes now is the best the company has ever been.
Tony Khan Hints At Mercedes Mone’s Debut. When Did She Sign?
Further details have been provided on Mone’s contract status courtesy of Fightful Select. Although many had speculated that Mone may still not have signed a contract until very recently, Fightful reports that Mone has been on the company payroll since early January. Additionally, as an agreement was in place in December 2023, this was why talks with WWE fell through. There was also the option of outright announcing Mone on the February 7th show, but this was passed on to instead only announce the Boston show.
Now, AEW has hinted at the first opponent for Mercedes Mone as a full-time member of the company.
Mone first appeared on AEW TV in the crowd at All In back in August, with some believing that a TV debut would not be too far behind. However, when Fightful reached out about a possible Grand Slam appearance, Mone was said to be “nowhere near being ready in the ring at that point.”
Prior to being injured, Mone last competed for New Japan. There is a hope that Mone will make further appearances in the future due to the strong relationship between each promotion.
