Mercedes Mone Discusses AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2 – “June So Far, I Think Could Be Open”

Mercedes Mone in NJPW

Mercedes Mone has only wrestled once in ten months, but she remains the talk of the wrestling town.

The star made her NJPW debut at Wrestle Kingdom 17, before defeating KAIRI to win the IWGP Women’s Title at Battle in the Valley a month later. With Mone now in possession of the gold, there has been significant speculation about what comes next.

Interestingly, Mone isn’t booked for any more appearances with NJPW or Stardom, beyond April 23rd.

There have been rumours for months that the star could sign with AEW, with some fans believing that AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2 on June 25th could be the perfect place for her in-ring debut.

During an appearance at Planet Comic Con, the star was asked about performing at the supershow.

When asked about appearing at Forbidden Door 2, Mone first asked when the show was. After being told it was in June, she hinted that an appearance might be on the cards, but only if the money is right.

“June so far, I think I could be open, July might be open but I gotta get that phone call. Gotta get that phone call from unc.”

Why Did Mercedes Mone Leave WWE?

During the appearance Mone, the former Sasha Banks refused to be drawn on the details behind her WWE departure. The star effectively left the company after walking out of a Monday Night Raw taping in May 2022, although she didn’t become a free agent until January 2023.

Mone said that no one knows the story behind her exit, and they won’t because she isn’t going to discuss it.
