Mercedes Martinez Crowned Undisputed Ring Of Honor Women’s Champion

Mercedes Martinez

Mercedes Martinez is the Undisputed Ring of Honor Women’s Champion after defeating Deonna Purrazzo in the main event of AEW Dynamite!

The match was a slow and methodical affair in the early going, with the two women trading chain wrestling holds, each in search of the upper hand. However, as the pace quickened, the high impact moves started to fly with the pair trading suplexes and strikes in the middle of the ring.

As the bout entered the final stanza it was Martinez who began to get on top with a Samoan Driver and a Curb Stomp. She eventually finished off Purrazzo by transitioning a Romero Special into a Dragon Sleeper.

After Purrazzo refused before the opening the bell, The Virtuosa and the new champion shook hands as Dynamite went off the air.

Purrazzo won the ROH Women’s Title back on January 9th with victory over Rok-C, who is now known as Roxanne Perez in NXT 2.0. Meanwhile, Mercedes Martinez scored a win over Willow Nightingale at ROH Supercard of Honor which meant that she was crowned Interim Champion.

Since leaving WWE in April 2020, Purrazzo has cemented herself as one of the premiere women’s wrestlers in the world. The now IMPACT Wrestling star has won the Knockouts Championship twice, the AAA Reina de Reinas Title as well as the ROH Women’s Title.

Mercedes Martinez made her AEW debut on December 29th where she briefly feuded with Thunder Rosa. Martinez saw her own run with WWE come to an end in August 2021 as she was released by the company, after mainly featuring on NXT.
