WWE has re-signed former Women’s Champion Melina after her National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) contract expired earlier this year, according to PWInsider. WWE had an interest in Melina as far back as the 2020 Royal Rumble.
Melina debuted in WWE in 2005 as the manager for popular tag team ‘MNM’, with Johnny Nitro (John Morrison) and Joey Mercury. She was a manager for ‘MNM’ and Johnny Nitro himself for much of her early career. She transitioned fully into a singles competitor in 2006. Soon after, she captured her first title on Raw, becoming WWE Women’s Champion. She became a two-time champion in 2009 after capturing the Diva’s title.
Since leaving WWE in 2011, she has competed in promotions all over the world, including the NWA, Lucha Underground, and Stardom.
Despite her relatively short run in WWE, Melina is well remembered by fans. One of the most memorable opponents from her first WWE run is current RAW superstar Mickie James. In fact, she defeated James to capture her first world title in 2007. With both women back in the company, we may see the two stars square off again over a decade later.
We can expect Melina to return to our screens as early as next week.
