NXT star LA Knight has arrived on Friday Night SmackDown, although he is now known as Max Dupri.
After being present at a number of SmackDown tapings in recent weeks, LA Knight has finally arrived on main roster television. However, the star has undergone a few changes since he was last seen in April at Stand & Deliver when he was defeated by Gunther.
On the May 20th episode of the blue brand, Knight marched into Adam Pearce’s office and introduced himself as Max Dupri. The star claimed he was the CEO of hot new modelling agency, “Maximum Male Models.” He explained that his goal was to find a new generation of Superstars who can headline both Paris Fashion Week as well as WrestleMania.
When Pearce said that he had no idea who Dupri who is was or why he was there, the former NXT star replied that he had been hired by now-former WWE Official Sonya Deville.
It is unclear as to whether the star will be competing in the ring, or working solely as a manager.

Max Dupri signed with WWE in early 2021 after a highly successful stint in IMPACT Wrestling under the name Eli Drake. Upon joining WWE, the star was re-named LA Knight and appeared exclusively on NXT. During his time on WWE’s third brand, Knight became Million Dollar Champion during his feud with Cameron Grimes and Ted DiBiase.
Dupri becomes the latest in a long line of Superstars to receive new names in recent weeks and months. Austin Theory has become Theory, and WALTER and Marcel Barthel became Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser respectively. Also on SmackDown, former NXT Superstar Pete Dunne was controversially re-named Butch.
It was recently reported that the raft of changes had come directly from Vince McMahon.
