Tension between Matt Riddle and Seth Rollins is far from over, and the two are headed toward a match at Extreme Rules that’s never been seen on WWE’s main roster!
Matt Riddle and Seth Rollins have been at odds with one another for over a month. They were originally supposed to face off at SummerSlam, but Rollins attacked him before the bout and Riddle was deemed medically unable to compete. That didn’t stop him from showing up to the show, however, and they brawled inside the Nissan Stadium in Nashville, TN. This led to further storyline injury to Riddle.
The feud intensified with a series of personal attacks, with Seth Rollins making light of Riddle’s 2013 UFC release and both men lobbing insults about their respective families.
They eventually went head to head at Clash at the Castle, with Rollins picking up the victory and Riddle leaving with a black eye.
On the September 19th episode of Raw, Rollins got involved as Riddle teamed with Rey Mysterio against The Judgment Day. After Damian Priest and Finn Balor picked up the win, an enraged Riddle brawled with Rollins backstage once again, and Rollins said he’d fight him anywhere and under any circumstances. Riddle responded by challenging his foe to a Fight Pit match at Extreme Rules on October 8th.

The Fight Pit is a stipulation that has yet to be seen on WWE’s main roster, but it has been employed on two occasions in NXT. In the first, Matt Riddle took on Timothy Thatcher inside the structure in May of 2020, and Thatcher used the match type once more when he faced off against Tommaso Ciampa in January of 2021.
Elsewhere on Monday Night Raw, Bobby Lashley defeated Seth Rollins to retain his United States Championship and Dominik Mysterio cut a promo about joining his “new family” in The Judgment Day. Full results from the episode can be found here.
