Matt Riddle has named Edge as the competitor he would most like to to face, claiming a bout with the ‘Rated R Superstar’ would be a dream match.
In recent interview with ViBe & Wrestling, former MMA turned WWE Superstar Riddle details his interactions with WWE Legends backstage. Known for having altercations with the likes of Brock Lesnar and Goldberg, the ‘Original Bro’ claims that rumours regarding his alleged ‘heat’ with Hall of Fame worthy performers is overblown:
“A lot of people think that I have heat with the legends, but the majority of the legends like me. I see Ric Flair all the time. He’s been around now that he has this little thing with Lacey and he is one of the greatest, he always give some tips and advice. Booker T always gives me advice to put my shoes on, he doesn’t like seeing me wrestle with barefoot, he says, ‘Go and get boots man!’ and I’m like, ‘It’s Riddle, Booker…’ Carlito was there the other day, he is a nice guy; Christian, he gave me some tips he said: “Keep being a stallion” and I say “You too”.
Edge is there all the time now, he is pretty legendary, he is cool. But do you know who was the best legend that was there? GILLBERG!! The guy is one of the nicest person that I’ve ever met. He wrestled, he’s been there, he’s been up, he’s been down… he was a pleasure, he gave great advice to everybody in the locker room and told stories about the past so he was a true treat.”
Mentioning Edge amongst the litany of legends, Matt Riddle would go to describe his dream match against this years Royal Rumble winner. Interestingly, Riddle expressed his desire to work opposite Edge in a tag team scenario:
“Edge is one of my dream matches. I mentioned him already in my dream scenario for a Tag Match. He is so good and brings presence. It’s the same with Randy Orton. Randy is so good, so big, so athletic, and such a household name. He is a dream match like AJ Styles, especially with this new giant, he is a dream match. So if you can be in a program with them or get in a rivalry with them certainly is career-making.”
Edge made his monumental return to WWE at the 2020 Royal Rumble. Entering this years Rumble match at number one, he would go on to win the bout, securing his place at WrestleMania 37. Though he is confirmed as facing WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns at the event, Edge has hinted at a potential reunion with former tag team partner Christian, meaning a dream match featuring Riddle and Edge could become a reality.
