Matt Riddle has discussed facing off against a major name.
During his early days in WWE, Riddle would often take shots at Goldberg. Along with referencing the Hall of Famer in various interviews, the former United States Champion used to bust out the Jackhammer in his NXT matches, much to the delight of the crowd at Full Sail University.
Previously calling out Goldberg for being “A sh*tty wrestler” and describing his selling as terrible, the two finally met at SummerSlam 2019 where the former World Champion was less than impressed.
Goldberg is not the first wrestler whom Riddle has gotten on the wrong side of, as the former WWE Star has previously targeted Brock Lesnar with various insults. Eventually, Lesnar and Riddle would work in matches together, albeit multi-man matches such as the Elimination Chamber and Royal Rumble. Riddle has previously stated that Brock Lesnar took matters into his own hands at the 2022 Royal Rumble, a match that the former WWE star claims he should have won.
Will Matt Riddle Vs. Goldberg Ever Happen?
While Riddle and Lesnar have technically had some matches together, no follow-up between Riddle and Goldberg ever took place. While appearing at Signed by Superstars, Riddle stated that he would love the match and that AEW seems to be the most logical destination for it to take place:
“I don’t want to give too much. I, personally, would love to work with William. I think William Goldberg would be a great match. I think I could get something out of him that people haven’t seen in years. I think it’d be great for business. I know it’d be good for me. At the end of the day, if he wants to do it, he’ll do it. If he needs to do it, he’ll do it. There would be a couple places we could do that. Maybe AEW, maybe TNA, maybe New Japan. If it was going to happen, it would probably be AEW,”
In regards to Matt Riddle’s surprising WWE claims, these have since been debunked.
H/t to Fightful.
