Edge and Matt Hardy have been through a lot together both inside and outside of the ring.
The two men took part in some of the most chaotic matches WWE has ever seen in the early 2000s as their respective tag teams and the Dudley Boyz, took high-flying violence to a whole new level.
While backstage the friends fell out in spectacular fashion after it emerged that Lita, who was in a relationship with Hardy, had been having an affair with Edge. This genuine animosity was then turned into a storyline that played out on television.
Matt Hardy now plies his trade with AEW and Edge is back with WWE after making a stunning return to the ring in 2020. The star had previously been forced to retire due to injury. However, the Rated R Superstar has been open about his career coming to an end, suggesting that he could wrestle his last match in 2023.
Speaking on his podcast, The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the star discussed the often-forgotten TLC III match on the May 24th, 2001 episode of SmackDown. On the show, Edge & Christian took on The Hardy Boyz, The Dudley Boyz, and Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit.
During the conversation, Hardy touched on Edge’s return and said that he could even end his career outside of WWE.
“Yeah, I think it would be very feasible for him to actually have his final match outside of the WWE,” Hardy said. “I think that’s something that is possible. It may not; he may just finish there, and I could see him being a guy that was committed if he says it is his last match. I don’t think he’s gonna do like Ric Flair and have like five or six last matches. I could see him finishing up with WWE, and, you know, maybe having his final few matches somewhere else.”
Edge was most recently in action on the May 12th edition of SmackDown where he took part in the first round of the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament.
Matt Hardy To Return To Action At Double Or Nothing
While Edge won’t be competing at Night of Champions, and watching from the sidelines as Seth Rollins and AJ Styles battle it out to become World Heavyweight Champion, Matt Hardy will be in action on May 28th.
At AEW Double or Nothing, Hardy will team with his brother Jeff and Hook at Double or Nothing to take on Ethan Page and The Gunns. If Hardy’s team is successful he will own Ethan Page’s contract.
