AEW star Matt Hardy has had a hard time of late, not only has his career taken a downward turn, but a dental mishap ruined his July 4th weekend.
Only one month ago, Matt Hardy was at a high point in his career. He had reunited with his brother, Jeff Hardy, and the pair were on course to win the AEW Tag Team Championships at the Dynamite Road Rager special on June 15th in a Ladder Match against Jurassic Express and The Young Bucks.
However, things fell apart when Jeff was arrested and charged with a DUI, leading to him being removed from AEW TV for the foreseeable future.
Following the incident, Matt Hardy said he would continue on in AEW and looked at the situation as “a challenge” and make the most out of any opportunity he is given.
Now, reflecting on the last few weeks on his podcast, The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the star says that it’s been a tough time for him.
“It’s been a tough time recently, my career, obviously, with everything that happened with my brother. And then, me just now kind of being put on the back burner. Even as I made my entrance, it ended up being in picture-in-picture. I had a great reaction, great pop, you know, whenever I came out for the Royal Rampage. But it was on television, no one would hear it because it was during picture-in-picture, but it is what it is.
“Then I got eliminated by The Butcher and The Blade, two guys that worked for me for the longest amount of time. So in some ways, I truly feel like karma is coming to get me a little bit. If Karma is a real thing that comes and gets people if they’ve treated others incorrectly in the past, maybe it is coming from me.”
Outside the ring, Matt Hardy revealed that he has been dealing with a broken tooth that developed an abscess. This led to him having a memorable July 4th weekend for all the wrong reasons.
“Just a couple days ago, I’ve had this tooth that I broke back in 2000 to 2003 in the midst of a match, and it was broke really bad. My very last tooth on the top left side. I got it repaired a little bit, and then that filling came out as well. Then got it refilled, then that filling came out about a year and a half ago and I just was like, ‘Ah, I’m not really gonna mess with this tooth’.
“It’s very frustrating, it’s annoying, you know, it keeps getting broken off in the back to and whatever. I’d had a couple incidents with it where it got sore on my gum a little bit. And it’s like, ‘Oh, it’s a real weird tooth because it’s been broken. Let me try and floss it and get whatever food is out or whatever. That’s probably what’s causing the issue.’ But this weekend on Saturday, it was unbearable.
“I went to sleep on Saturday night, Sunday, I had to go to an emergency doctor. The tooth ended up being abscessed and it was very badly infected. I felt terrible. And they said, ‘Well, we either a) put you on hold for a few days into a root canal or b) we can get rid of the tooth.’ I said, ‘Am I going to need that tooth?’ And they said ‘no, not really.’
“It’s in the back, let’s get rid of it. So we get rid of it. And that’s how I spent my Fourth of July weekend. So I mean, there might be something real, karma is coming to get me like nothing is going my way in this day and age.”
