AEW star Matt Hardy has heaped praise on Undisputed WWE WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
Roman Reigns is arguably the biggest star in the wrestling world today. The Tribal Chief has held the Universal Championship for over two years and added the WWE Title at WrestleMania 38 with a crushing win over Brock Lesnar.
The Head of The Table followed this up with another win over Lesnar at SummerSlam in one of the wildest Last Man Standing Matches that WWE had ever seen.
Over the course of his dominant run the star has defeated the likes of Edge, John Cena, Goldberg, Bryan Danielson and Drew McIntyre as well as Lesnar.
These accolades recently earned the Undisputed Champion the number one spot in the PWI 500. Reigns secured top billing after seeing off Kazuchika Okada and CM Punk who rounded out the top three. It was the second time that Reigns had earned the honour, while he has been ranked in the top seven every year since 2014 apart from in 2020, when he was out of the ring for several months.
Speaking on a recent episode of his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the AEW star reflected on Reigns landing at the top of the list. Hardy praised Reigns, commenting that he has been presented as a throwback kind of champion.
“I mean, Roman is being booked in a very specific way to look dominant and be a champion of the old days where he’s had a reign over two years now, if I’m not mistaken. He’s just, he’s killing what he’s doing, and you can really tell the booking and the company is behind them fully. And it’s kind of a throwback to the old days having a completely dominant champion, which whenever he does drop the title is going to end up being a really big deal, because he’s been such a dominant champion.”
Following his victory over Drew McIntyre at WWE Clash In The Castle Roman Reigns seemed to be without a challenger. That was until Logan Paul decided to step up and stake a claim. It has since been confirmed that Paul will meet Reigns at Crown Jewel on November 5th with all of the gold on the line.
