Current AEW star Matt Hardy has revealed he once witnessed Vince McMahon “laying into” Bray Wyatt and accusing the former Universal Champion of being out of shape.
While still a member of the WWE roster, Matt Hardy had a memorable run with Bray Wyatt in 2018, first feuding with the Eater of Worlds before joining forces with his former foes. Known as the Deleters of Worlds, the duo held the Raw Tag Team Championships for several months.
On the latest edition of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the star revealed that, after one of their tag matches, Vince McMahon berated Wyatt for not doing his infamous ‘spider walk’, asking if he couldn’t do it anymore.
”’Bray, why didn’t you do that spider walk. What’s wrong with you. You’re not in shape, can you not do it anymore?’ He really laid into him and then he said, ‘you’re not even playing the gimmick’. It was just like reeming Windham out.'”
This was not the first time Hardy has spoken about Vince McMahon’s interactions with Bray Wyatt. He has previously discussed how the two had a “very strange” relationship, with McMahon veering between loving Wyatt and insulting him.
“Windham [Bray Wyatt] has always had a very strange relationship with Vince McMahon, very strange, like, I almost felt like Vince looked at him like a son in some ways.
When he would do things that he liked, he would love him and he would really give him everything that he could possibly give him.
“He would bend over backwards to try and accommodate him, but then when he did something he didn’t like, it was like he was going to lock him away for good.
It was almost like a really weird, a really strange and different duality that Vince shared with Bray. It was really bad and he would punish him and insult him. To me, it was so strange, it was almost like a parent.”
