Matt Hardy Makes Bizarre Comparison Between AEW Star And The Undertaker

The Undertaker

The Undertaker enjoyed a career like no other, and over the course of 30 years with WWE, became not only synonymous with the company but its showpiece event, WrestleMania.

The WWE Hall of Famer was involved in some of the most famous matches and rivalries in the history of the industry, cementing his status as one of the true giants of the wrestling world.

Speaking on his podcast, The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the tag team legend made the slightly unusual claim that Orange Cassidy is on his way to fulfilling the same role in AEW.

Hardy began by praising Cassidy for his commitment to his character, commenting that he is “top of the list” when it comes to performers in AEW.

“Orange Cassidy is tremendous. He’s at the top of the list when it comes to performers in AEW. He’s out there playing a character that is not easy to do, but he’s very committed to the gig. I can tell you how much I respect someone who does that because I did that as Broken Matt Hardy.”

Hardy went on to make what he admitted was a “strange connection” between Cassidy and The Undertaker.

“In some ways, Orange Cassidy to Tony [Khan], at this stage right now, reminds me of the relationship between Vince McMahon and The Undertaker,” Hardy said. “[Taker] was like Vince’s go-to guy, a guy that Vince knew could go out and get the job done. On top of that, those guys were both great wrestlers but played outlandish and over-the-top gimmicks. There’s a crazy similarity there.”

The Undertaker Still Grappling With Retirement

The Undertaker hasn’t wrestled since defeating AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36, but that doesn’t mean that his move out of the ring has been a simple one. The Deadman officially hung up his famous black hat at Survivor Series in 2020 but has often spoken about the difficulty of admitting that his career is over.

In a recent interview, the legend explained that things have finally begun to be easier, but he still has moments of uncertainty. ‘Taker recalled being in attendance for WrestleMania 39 and watching the action thinking that he could have been involved.
