Matt Hardy Confirms When Jeff Hardy Will Become A Free Agent

Matt Hardy & Jeff Hardy - The Hardy Boyz

Matt Hardy has revealed when his brother Jeff will officially become a free agent following his release by WWE.

Ever since Jeff Hardy was released by WWE on December 9th, fans across the world have wondered whether they might get to see the Charismatic Enigma join his brother Matt in AEW. Matt Hardy has even talked up the prospect of teaming with his brother for one final run with the promotion.

Meanwhile following the February 4th episode of AEW Rampage, Tony Khan confirmed that a new name would be coming through the ‘Forbidden Door’ on the upcoming episode of Dynamite to sign a contract and face Isiah Kassidy. This naturally led fans to wonder whether Jeff Hardy might be the mystery man.

However, Matt Hardy has seemingly poured cold water on the speculation for now, confirming that Jeff’s non-compete clause doesn’t expire until March 9th.

Speaking on a recent Twitch stream, Matt confirmed the date, adding that an appearance on February 9th would be unlikely.

“I don’t think he’s the guy coming in this Wednesday in AEW against Isiah Kassidy,”

“Although, who knows. Tony Khan, Papa Khan has a lot of money. Maybe he bought him out of his contract and he is coming in early. Who knows. The final of the 90 days was supposed to be on March 9. March 10 he’s a free agent.”

Hardy reaffirmed this on his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, before also refusing to rule out a reunion in AEW.

“Jeff’s no-compete clause runs until March 9. As of March 10, he will be free to do whatever. He can negotiate with somebody or work for another big company that has television. Do I think Jeff Hardy could end up coming to AEW and team with Matt Hardy again? As they say in the wrestling business, ‘never say never. Anything is possible.’ We’re definitely going to be working together and we’ll see if the planets align and get the opportunity to become the greatest team in all of space and time once more,”

It was recently announced that The Hardy Boyz will be teaming together for the first time in three years with Big Time Wrestling on March 12th. For his part, Jeff Hardy has remained mostly quiet about his wrestling future but recently confirmed he would be returning to the ring when his current meet and greet tour ends in early March.
