Former WWE Superstar Matt Cardona isn’t actively trying to get back to WWE but says the WWE Championship is something he thinks about “every single day.”
Matt Cardona has made arguably a bigger name for himself wrestling since leaving WWE in 2020 than he did during his many years competing for the company as Zack Ryder.
Since leaving WWE, Cardona has had spells in AEW, IMPACT Wrestling, and NWA, but it might be through his work with Game Changer Wrestling that he has achieved the most notoriety. Matt Cardona infamously defeated death match king Nick Gage at his own game to become GCW Champion much to the fury of GCW’s loyal fans.
Cardona’s quest to bring sports entertainment to the realm of GCW was somewhat put on hold when he lost the title to AEW World Champion Jon Moxley.
The wrestling world has changed since Cardona was released by WWE and with many stars of the company returning under the management of Triple H, many are wondering who will be next to get the call to return.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Matt Cardona says he’s not actively trying to return to WWE, but if he got the call, he’d pick up the phone:
“I’m not trying to get back to WWE. But I’d lying if I said I never wanted to have a WrestleMania moment again, or I never wanted to wrestle at Madison Square Garden – of course I would. If Triple H called me right now, if I had that 203 – that’s the area code for Stamford, Connecticut – of course I’d pick up. But right now, I’m focusing on being the best me possible and having the most fun possible, and making the most money possible.”
“[…] Right now I’m trying to prove that you don’t necessarily need to be in WWE or AEW to be a successful pro wrestler. But of course, the WWE Championship is something I think about every single day when I wake up, that is definitely always on my mind. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t. I think if you’re in this business, to be a world champion is the goal you should have. And for me personally, it’s the bees – the WWE Championship.”
