Former WWE Superstar Matt Cardona gave his thoughts on Vince McMahon’s retirement from WWE.
On July 22nd, Vince McMahon announced his retirement from WWE amidst an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct and hush money payments. On July 25th, the Wall Street Journal reported that a federal investigation into these allegations “hastened” his retirement, which an SEC filing actually calls a resignation.
Speaking to Wrestling Shoot Interviews, former Intercontinental Champion Matt Cardona gave his reaction to McMahon’s retirement from the WWE, saying that he never thought the day would come.
“I never thought we’d see the day when Vince McMahon retired from WWE. I never thought it would be on Twitter. I thought there would be this grand goodbye. The allegations are very serious, and I don’t even want to speak on those. But Vince McMahon as the creator of sports entertainment, of WWE, Man, he created what has become my life and I need to thank him for that.”
When McMahon announced his retirement, Cardona tweeted a message of thanks to his former boss and included a picture of himself dressed as the former CEO during his GCW title match against Sam Stackhouse back in August of 2021.
“Thanks for everything @VinceMcMahon. Enjoy retirement.”
