Matt Cardona Looks Back On “Incredible” WWE Segment With Hugh Jackman

Matt Cardona Looks Back On

Matt Cardona has recalled the night he had Wolverine on his side to pick up a major victory.

Back in September 2011, Cardona faced off against Dolph Ziggler on Raw. While The Show Off had Vickie Guerrero in his corner for the match, the man previously known as Zack Ryder had backup from Hollywood icon Hugh Jackman. The actor would prove to be invaluable to Cardona as Wolverine decked Ziggler when the referee was distracted, allowing Cardona to take advantage and pick up the victory.

Celebrating with Wolverine after the bell, both men shared a moment that they would never forget.

Looking back on the memorable segment with Dominic D’Angelo of One True Sport, Cardona stated that it was great working with the Hollywood star:

“He was so cool, man. Hugh Jackman was incredible.”

Continuing, Cardona stated that he was forever thankful to Jackman for making him a star that night:

“I think it took it to a whole another level and he was such a great guy about it. He like wore my headband. Like he didn’t have to wear my headband out there, right?

I was telling him backstage about the YouTube show he asked if he could be on it. He filmed an open for me and the best part, he held up a sign in early in the night, I don’t think he really read the sign, but it said ‘Ryder is greater than Wolverine.’”

While Jackman punched Ziggler in the face that night, he returned to WWE in 2014 to help Ziggler takedown “Magneto”, who was portrayed by Damien Sandow.

Matt Cardona Confirms Zack Ryder Is Dead

Released from his contract in 2020, Cardona has made a major name for himself on the independent scene and has become “The Indy God” with his work in a number of promotions including GCW. While fans are hopeful that a Matt Cardona WWE could happen in the future, The Deathmatch King explained why he could never come back as Zack Ryder.
