Ever since Triple H took over as head of creative in WWE, there have been shocking and surprise returns aplenty.
Karrion Kross, Scarlett, The Good Brothers, Mia Yim, Tegan Knox, Bronson Reed and Johnny Gargano have all returned to the company under The Game’s watch.
One of the most recent comebacks was at the Royal Rumble. During the women’s rumble match Chelsea Green entered the stadium as a surprise entrant. For weeks the former IMPACT! Wrestling Knockouts Champion was heavily rumoured to make her comeback at the show. Green made her return as the twentieth entrant in the women’s Rumble match and set an unfortunate record in doing so.
Upon making her entrance, Green spent the least amount of time in the history of the women’s match. She lasted just five seconds in the ring before being unceremoniously eliminated by the eventual winner, Rhea Ripley.
The record-setting return was certainly a talking point and one person, in particular, enjoyed it very much. Green’s real-life husband, Matt Cardona made an appearance on the Pro Wrestling Boom podcast, and praised his wife’s record-breaking return.
“I thought it was absolutely amazing because I knew everybody was gonna be talking about this (Chelsea Green’s Royal Rumble elimination) and then the fact she set a new record. On her first day back, she’s already setting records. I’m so proud of her. But this is great. What was gonna happen? She flies in there, does a couple moves, in there for five minutes then gets thrown out? No one’s gonna remember that. But this is memorable and a perfect way to re-debut.”
Matt Cardona Is Rumoured To Make His Return To WWE
Since being released in April 2020, Cardona completely reinvented himself on the independent wrestling scene and had significant runs in IMPACT! Wrestling, NWA and GCW. During this time he won multiple championships.
In 2021 he defeated Nick Cage for the GCW World Championship. The following year he became the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion and the Impact Digital Media Champion. More recently he became the first-ever Jericho Cruise Oceanic Champion.
His impressive work since leaving WWE has apparently caught the eye of Triple H, with reports suggesting he is a ‘big fan’ and may have some interest in bringing the former Zack Ryder back to WWE.
