Matt Cardona Takes Inspiration From Bret Hart To Tease WWE Return

Matt Cardona

Matt Cardona has been one of the most high-profile ex-WWE wrestlers on the independent scene over the last few years. After being released from WWE in 2020, Cardona has wrestled all over the independent circuit. He has won singles gold in Impact, GCW, and the NWA, with the latter two titles being world titles.

And while his tenure in AEW was short and largely uneventful, he did claim responsibility for AEW’s reaction.

And now, Cardona continues to tease fans about his future.

Cardona copied memorable Bret Hart Gesture From Survivor Series 1997

At a recent GCW event, Matt Cardona copied a memorable visual from Survivor Series 1997. For those that may not remember, that was the night of the Montreal Screwjob ant Bret Hart’s last WWE appearance until 2010.

After the controversial finish, Bret went on a tirade to vent his frustrations. Two if his most memorable actions that took place in front of the camera were him spitting on Vince McMahon’s face and then drawing the letters ‘W-C-W’ in the air for the whole world to see.

Fast forward to December 2022 and Matt Cardona did something similar. He didn’t have anyone to spit on so instead he wrote the letters ‘W-W-E’ as he left the ring.

Matt Cardona has made several comments about a potential WWE return as of late. A lot of them have been theoretical ‘if it happens what then’ comments with Cardona making suggestions and presenting ideas on how such a run would go. He has already stated that he wouldn’t go back to wrestling as Zack Ryder, despite wrestling under that name for over a decade in WWE.

He has also suggested a possible ‘cinematic match’ between Zack Ryder and himself (Matt Cardona), something akin to Bray Wyatt’s Firefly Funhouse match with John Cena from a few years ago.
