Matt Cardona Backstage At Raw, WWE Return Rumoured

Matt Cardona has made headlines with his recent WWE backstage return, sparking rumours that he may soon rejoin the company.

Speculation about Cardona’s potential comeback began circulating after Triple H took over creative in late 2022, expressing interest in rehiring both Cardona and his real-life partner, Chelsea Green. While Green made her WWE in-ring return in January, Cardona, who has undergone a transformation since his departure, has yet to step back into a WWE ring.

However, Cardona did attend the July 17 episode of Raw, where he witnessed his wife and Sonya Deville capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship from Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. Cardona’s presence backstage at the event further fuelled speculation about his future plans after Green shared a photo of herself and Cardona backstage.

Addressing the rumours on Busted Open Radio, Cardona clarified that he didn’t want to linger backstage for too long to avoid giving the impression that he was actively seeking a job. However, he emphasised that his lifelong dream has always been to be a part of WWE.

In addition to his potential WWE return, Cardona has also been linked to a possible reunion with AEW. However, Cardona previously dismissed these rumours.

Why Did Matt Cardona Leave WWE?

Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder, was signed to WWE for 15 years and he was released along with tag partner Curt Hawkins in 2020 as part of budget cuts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cardona had been used primarily as an undercard talent while with the company. However, he did have momentary successes, capturing the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 32 after replacing PAC in a ladder match for the title. Unfortunately, Cardona lost the title to The Miz just three days later.

Since Cardona’s departure, he has enjoyed success on the independent circuit. As fans eagerly await Cardona’s next move, it remains to be seen whether he will officially rejoin WWE or continue to explore other opportunities on the independent scene.
