Both Seth Rollins and Damian Priest have a lot to lose at Money in the Bank.
The June 17th episode of Raw saw Seth Rollins make his surprise return to WWE for the first time since WrestleMania after undergoing knee surgery that had been put off so he could still compete on The Grandest Stage. Making his intentions clear from the off, Rollins looked to get back the World Heavyweight Championship, which he lost to Drew McIntyre in the opening match of night 2. Priest confronted Rollins and offered The Visionary a title match, which was later accepted. While it appeared that everything had been confirmed, both competitors raised the stakes the following week.
Looking to make the match a one-off, Priest stated that if he were to retain the World Heavyweight Championship then Rollins would be unable to challenge for the title again as long as Priest is champion. While Rollins accepted the terms, the former champion had a stipulation of his own which would see Priest leave The Judgment Day if he lost the title in Toronto. Priest also accepted the terms, adding that The Judgment Day needed him more than he needed the group. The champion and challenger were then interrupted by Gunther, who reminded both men that he would face the winner at SummerSlam due to his victory in the King of the Ring tournament.
Seth Rollins Aims To Regain World Heavyweight Championship
As Roman Reigns unified the WWE and Universal Championship at WrestleMania 38, the decision was made just over a year later to reintroduce the World Heavyweight Championship to WWE and was contested in a tournament across Raw and SmackDown. The finals took place at Night of Champions 2023, with Rollins defeating AJ Styles to become the inaugural champion and holding the title until WrestleMania 40.
