The Rock is reportedly planned for another marquee match at WrestleMania 41.
On April 6th, The People’s Champion competed in his first major WWE match in 11 years. Teaming with Roman Reigns, the Hollywood star made good on his promise to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins to make the following night’s main event Bloodline Rules, meaning that anything goes.
With the tag team match able to limit in-ring time and Rock showing minimal signs of ring rust, fans remain optimistic that The Great One will once again compete inside the squared circle when all is said and done, especially due to the events that took place in the lead-up to the match and in the match itself.
Although WrestleMania 40 was centred around the Cody Rhodes story and his rivalry with Roman Reigns, a lot of buildup to the night 1 tag match saw Rock and Rhodes exchange insults and physicality while Reigns and Rhodes’ interactions were not as intense. Additionally, with Reigns accidentally spearing Rock in the night 1 main event, 2 more massive matches for The People’s Champion have been possibly set up in the near future.
On the April 8th Raw after WrestleMania, Rhodes celebrated his monumental victory before being interrupted by The Rock once more. After an awkward title exchange and a show of respect from The Rock, The People’s Champion secretly placed something in the hands of the new Undisputed Champion. According to a new report, this will lead to a showdown in one year’s time.
Having now competed at WrestleMania 40, The Rock received a huge bonus.
The Rock Vs. Cody Rhodes Seemingly Set For WrestleMania 41
Discussing the segment on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez stated that the mystery angle has captivated fans once more and that it appears that Rock vs. Rhodes in a singles match will take place soon. Dave Meltzer responded that WrestleMania 2025 is the planned location for the match:
Alvarez: “But as I’m scrolling through, it’s like, that’s all everybody’s talking about is ‘what did the Rock give Cody? What do you think he gave him?’ That’s what people love. They love a mystery. And they have to follow the show every week to find out what’s going on in the story. And this is going to be a long-term mystery because Rock is leaving, but I thought it was very, very clever what they did because clearly, they’re doing Rock and Cody one-on-one. I mean, that was made patently obvious in this segment here.”
Meltzer: “Well, that is certainly the plan right now. Yes. And not for a long time. Next year’s WrestleMania.”
Alvarez: “Hey, you know what if this guy felt good, and he did great that match and he didn’t get hurt? I mean, if he thinks he can do two more years, then it should be Rock and Cody next year and Rock and Roman Reigns a year after. And that’s two gigantic WrestleMania you got based on those matches.”
At the time of writing, WrestleMania 41 is heavily rumoured to be taking place in Minnesota, but nothing has been confirmed.
A few days before his return to the ring, The Rock confirmed his status with WWE moving forward.
