Jade Cargill not getting signed by WWE was a matter of control according to one WWE Hall of Famer.
Before Jade Cargill became AEW TBS Champion, she was given a chance to try out for WWE. However, things didn’t pan out for Cargill, and she eventually made her way to AEW. Now, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry has explained why the company didn’t end up signing her.
Speaking on Busted Open, Henry revealed that due to “financial considerations,” the company decided to pass on Cargill:
“I made that offer to them [WWE] but they didn’t want to relinquish enough control. You know, there was financial considerations and all of that stuff that is personal information. But, I also knew people over there in AEW and I was on ‘Team Jade’ so I was like, ‘Listen, I’ve got somebody for y’all if y’all want her, this is what’s necessary’ – and boom, they picked her up.”
Cargill once described Henry as her “mentor” while training at Heath Miller and Richard Borger’s Face 2 Face Wrestling School. She later trained at the Nightmare Factory under QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes before ultimately being signed by AEW President Tony Khan. Cargill made her AEW debut in a segment involving Cody Rhodes, where she teased the arrival of Shaquille O’ Neal.
The TBS Champion once stated that while she loves the “glitz and glamour” of WWE, she’s content with her position in AEW. Reports have suggested that Cargill’s work in AEW attracted interest from those within WWE. As of now, Cargill continues to dominate as TBS Champion.
