Mark Henry Says Austin Theory Could Become The Face Of WWE

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry has claimed that Austin Theory is in prime position to go on and become the face of the entire company.

Mark Henry has been embedded in professional wrestling for more than 25 years, and in that time both in and out of the ring, has rubbed shoulders with some of the best to ever pull on a pair of boots.

His initial athletic promise and Olympic weightlifting pedigree persuaded WWE to tie him down to a 10-year contract in 1996. Henry later became World Heavyweight Champion before being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018.

Following his retirement from in-ring competition, Henry began mentoring young talent backstage. A role which has only increased since he left WWE to sign with AEW in May 2021.

Speaking during a recent episode of Busted Open Radio, Henry was asked to name a rising star under the age of 25 who could go on to earn a seat at wrestling’s top table. The former World Champion singled out Monday Night Raw star Austin Theory, citing his recent on-screen interactions with Vince McMahon as proof that WWE see potential in the star.

“I was torn and I ended up with Austin Theory because he’s doing something that very few wrestlers get to do, i.e. play Robin to Batman, which is playing Robin to Vince McMahon. Austin (Stone Cold) did it, The Rock did it, Mankind did it, and you go down the list of guys that had serious interactions with Vince, those storylines with Vince: who did they become? The face of the company, ‘The Guy.'”

“Austin Theory is on that trajectory. He’s young, he can be groomed, he listens, he wants to be great, and he realizes the position is that he is in, and he’s doing what he’s told and he’ll be a star.”

Austin Theory signed with WWE in August 2019 briefly appearing in NXT before heading to the Raw brand. After joining forces with Seth Rollins and Buddy Murphy in the summer of 2020, Theory headed back to NXT. While back on what was still the black and gold brand, Theory became part of The Way alongside Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell.

As part of the WWE Draft in October 2021, Theory moved back to Raw, appearing on the men’s Team Raw at Survivor Series. Following the event it emerged that Theory had stolen Cleopatra’s Egg from Vince McMahon. But instead of being punished, the WWE Chairman has since taken Theory under his wing.

Most recently, McMahon entered Theory into the Royal Rumble match.
