Mark Briscoe led an emotional tribute to his late brother Jay on AEW Dynamite.
The January 17th show marked one year since Jay Briscoe was tragically killed in a car accident aged just 38 years old. The iconic Brisoces theme played as Mark Briscoe made his way to the entrance ramp.
Briscoe greeted the South Carolina crowd and referenced that it was one year to the day since Jay passed. Mark mentioned that his nieces were in the car with Jay and that his older niece was told after the accident that she may never walk again. At this point, Mark’s niece walked out to the stage with her brother and sister. The Briscoe family embraced and a video package played to highlight the legacy of the late, great Jay Briscoe.
Mark Briscoe Continues The Briscoe Family Legacy
Regarded as one of the best teams in the modern era of professional wrestling, The Briscoes won Tag Team Championships all around the world, including 13 reigns as the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champions. The Briscoes final match for ROH took place at Final Battle 2022, where the brothers defeated FTR in a Dog Collar match to capture the ROH Tag Team Championships once again and ended their trilogy of universally acclaimed matches.
The Briscoes never appeared on AEW TV as Warner Bros. Discovery took issue with an anti-LGBTQ social media post made by Jay Briscoe in 2013. Despite Briscoe publicly apologising and many in the wrestling world going on record stating that Briscoe was a big supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, WBD would never lift the ban. Following Jay Briscoe’s sudden and tragic passing, AEW Dynamite on January 18th 2023 paid tribute to the former Ring of Honor World Champion. The main event saw Mark Briscoe make his televised debut for the promotion, defeating Jay Lethal in what was an emotional end to the show. Briscoe has regularly competed on AEW television following this appearance.
In April 2024, Mark Briscoe paid tribute to his brother after winning the ROH World Title at Supercard of Honor on the 11th anniversary of Jay’s first time capturing the same gold.
Everyone at Inside The Ropes would like to once again send condolences to the family and friends of Jay Briscoe.
