Mariah May’s New WWE Name Has A Hidden Meaning

WWE NXT Star Mariah May

Mariah May‘s new name on WWE has a special and personal meaning.

Mariah May debuted last week on WWE NXT by challenging Jacy Jayne for the brand’s Women’s Championship. However, her name wasn’t mentioned at all in her arrival, but that all changed this week when a video package shared that her ring name going forward is now Blake Monroe.

The name change received a mixed reaction from wrestling fans. While some are excited since the alteration can signify a new beginning, some prefer that she had kept the old one. However, the modification also pays homage to her roots. As per BodySlam’s Cory Hays, Blake is a tribute to Mariah’s niece, while Monroe from the famous actress Marilyn Monroe.

Current WWE NXT Champion Confused Mariah May With Tiffany Stratton

Following Mariah May’s NXT appearance last week, Jacy Jayne appeared on Busted Open and recalled seeing the now-Blake Monroe for the first time. The titleholder admitted that at first, she thought it was Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton challenging her, but realized the superstar wasn’t carrying a championship.

“So at first, I thought it was Tiffany (Stratton). I was like, oh my God! Tiffany’s here. But, then I was like, okay. Well, she doesn’t have a title. Can’t be Tiffany. But I’m excited. I welcome anybody to our division. Let’s see if you can hang with our division and it’s just another shot for me to show everyone that I’m better.”
