Mariah May details why AEW is different from other promotions.
At All In 2024 in Wembley, London, Mariah May defeated Toni Storm to become the Women’s Champion. Winning the Owen Hart Cup and the World title in one’s rookie year is an extraordinary feat, and May is aware of it. During a recent interview, Mariah May addressed her impressive achievements before speaking up on a potential acting career.
In the same interview with Niko Exxtra, she opened up on her working relationship with AEW and what makes it different from all the other wrestling promotions.
We work with so many different places, and STARDOM was my family for a year, that’s my home, so any time any of those girls come over, I’m like, damn, I want to get my hands on them and get in the ring with them again. I think that’s why Tony Khan is so great and AEW is so great because they let you do that. In turn, I think everyone wins. If you think about myself and Mina [Shirakawa] and Toni [Storm], that kind of just happened because I happened to tag with Mina and we had the STARDOM show, and it all kind of fell into place.
And they wrestled at Forbidden Door, and I think that storyline was another one that people kind of loved, and it was great for the women’s division. Then Mina kind of came back for me, and we had that story too, and I don’t think any of those stories are finished, either. So I think that’s why AEW is so different and why I love working here is because anything can happen, which I think is exciting.”

Since winning the title in her hometown, May has defended the gold against the likes of Mina Shirakawa, Anna Jay, Willow Nightingale, and more. With Toni Storm returning at Dynamite Winter Is Coming, the new champion is on high alert.
She is now set to defend her championship against Thunder Rosa at Worlds End on 28th December 2024.
Thunder Rosa Calls Out Mariah May After Her Recent Comments
Speaking on The Busted Open Radio, Thunder Rosa called out Mariah May after her recent comments on the December 18th episode of Dynamite. The inaugural champion responded strongly to May’s comments about her father.
Our family’s going through a lot, especially with my father — my father was just diagnosed with a serious disease. She’s a skank, a full-on skank — like you don’t talk about my — you got no right to talk about my dad!”
