Maria Kanellis has shared a powerful message on social media calling for change in WWE.
The comments from the former WWE Superstar come after a recent episode of Dark Side of the Ring focusing on the infamous ‘Plane Ride From Hell.’
The ‘Plane Ride from Hell’ took place following the UK exclusive pay-per-view Insurrextion in May 2002. During a now infamous flight several performers were involved in incidents that would result in fines, lawsuits and, in the cases of Scott Hall and Curt Hennig, releases from the company.
Writing on Twitter about the documentary, Kanellis initially hit out at what she saw as the culture within WWE during that period. In a follow up post, Kanellis said that “playing dumb kept her safe,” adding that “we were all afraid in WWE.”
It was all for power and for us to be submissive. Playing dumb kept me safe back then but now I fight against all that nonsense. We were all afraid in WWE. I refuse to be afraid anymore. https://t.co/9kqBSXgpHr

In a later post, Kanellis said that the talent were her “favourite part” of her last run with the company, before explaining that “the office needs to change.”
Following comments made on the show, Tommy Dreamer has reportedly been suspended by current employer IMPACT Wrestling.
According to a report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, an email from IMPACT’s Ed Nordholm was sent to all staff and talent on September 17th informing them of Dreamer’s indefinite suspension.
Maria Kanellis signed for WWE in 2004 after appearing in Diva Search. After a run alongside Santino Marella and challenging for the Divas and Women’s Championships, Kanellis was released in 2010. The star later appeared in Ring of Honor, IMPACT and New Japan, before returning to WWE alongside her husband Mike Bennett in 2017.
The pair have since returned to ROH after being released by WWE in April 2020.
