Many In WWE “Shocked” To See Roderick Strong Make AEW Debut

Adam Cole and Roderick Strong - AEW debut

Roderick Strong’s AEW debut was not only a shock to fans but reportedly to WWE as well.

On the April 26th episode of AEW Dynamite, Strong ran in to help Adam Cole as he was being attacked by the Jericho Appreciation Society. Orange Cassidy and Bandido had already tried to help Cole but were quickly taken out.

With Strong into the action, he helped clear the ring and shared an emotional reunion with Cole.

However, it has now been reported that although those in WWE knew Strong wouldn’t be appearing for the company again, they were under the impression he remained under contract. Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that this led to many in the company being shocked to see him run out on Dynamite.

“While we do know of people in WWE who knew Strong wasn’t coming back, many in the company believed he was still under contract and were shocked to see him on TV. He was still listed on the WWE roster (so was Naomi) when he did the AEW run-in. Strong had asked for his release a long time back and was turned down. However, the decision was made not to use him when he got hurt and they did the angle where Damon Kemp took him out as the cover story. It was noted to us that there were no plans to bring Strong back after that point.”

Another Huge Name To Join Roderick Strong In AEW?

Dave Meltzer also reported that another big name could be about to join Strong in AEW. Meltzer stated that alongside CM Punk’s return to the company on June 17th at the United Center, the new show Collision will also feature “another major name debut or return.”
