Towards the end of 2019, a romance storyline between Otis and Mandy Rose was featured on WWE television. The story continued to Wrestlemania 36, where Mandy Rose helped Otis score a victory over veteran Dolph Ziggler.
The romantic angle was adored by WWE fans thanks to the undeniable on-screen chemistry between the two. It was clear that Mandy & Otis had a blast while involved in this storyline, and recently, Mandy Rose opened up about it.
Mandy Rose Reflects On Beloved Storyline With Otis
In his latest interview, Chris Van Vliet spoke with Mandy Rose about her career. When the subject of her storyline with Otis came up, Rose could not have been more wholesomely nostalgic.
“That was such a fun, like, loving, entertaining story. And I think of the timing of it, like, you know, right during the pandemic, too. So I feel like there was so much, you know, so much negativity going around, and just like, you know, people cooped up in their homes, and I felt like it was such a good story to just kind of like for, I don’t know, it was just pure entertainment. And it was fun.
But for me, I just had a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun working with him. He’s obviously a character in and out in and out of the ring. And it was really cool to be able to have that kind of storyline where it was like, you know, we barely wrestled, it was more just like that was an entertaining [storyline]. Like, when they talked about sports entertainment, like that was pure entertainment I feel like. But it was fun. I had a lot of fun.”
Unlike many romance storylines in wrestling, this did not end with one-half turning on the other. Instead, Otis and Mandy were moved to separate brands, abruptly ending their on-screen relationship. Otis would soon become Mr Money in the Bank in 2020, but would never get the chance to cash his guaranteed title shot in, thanks to hijinx from the Miz and John Morrison. These days, he is part of Alpha Academy with his close friend Chad Gable.
Meanwhile, Mandy Rose is achieving great success as part of Toxic Attraction in NXT. She is the current reigning NXT Women’s Champion, a title she has held for over a year.
