Current AEW star Malakai Black has discussed his final run in WWE and says sometimes he can’t help feeling that it was just a waste of time.
Then known as Aleister Black in WWE, he had become a top star on the NXT brand before graduating to the company’s main roster. Following the WWE Draft in late 2020, Black was shelved for several months before vignettes began airing in April 2021 which showed Black in what became known as his Dark Father character.
However, the Dark Father was quickly aborted when Black was released by WWE in June 2021. Following a contract snafu, the Dutch star was able to debut for AEW a little over a month after being cut.
Speaking on The Universal Wrestling Podcast Malakai Black discussed the end of his WWE run and says sometimes it just feels like a waste of time:
“The Dark Father vignettes were great but it’s always such a questionable thing as to why they [WWE] did what they did. The thing is, I say questionable, now, I obviously know everything that went down and why. Things went the way they went, but it still feels like sometimes an incredible waste of time for me and Chris [Dunn] because we were invested in that thing for eight months.”
“We spoke a lot, and Chris was a lot of the time my conscience in this. Calming me down because sitting at home for eight months, for a guy like me who loves working, I love to be involved. I’m involved in this process that just eats me alive sometimes.”
Malakai Black currently leads The House Of Black in AEW where he is aligned with Brody King and Buddy Matthews.
