AEW star Malakai Black is set to miss upcoming independent dates due to undisclosed “health issues.”
Over the past week, reports suggested that AEW star Malakai Black requested his release from the company. Fightful reported on September 7th that numerous talents informed them that Black’s “highly conditional” release was granted and that he would be out for the foreseeable future.
AEW President Tony Khan didn’t comment on the Black’s situation during the All Out post-show media scrum Sunday night. Some fans had speculated if Black was frustrated with his current position in the company; however, nothing has yet to be confirmed.
Now, it appears Black is disappearing from the wrestling scene entirely as Northeast Wrestling announced he would not appear at the September 9th event due to “health issues.” The report does not mention what these “health issues” entail. AEW’s Jay Lethal and MLW’s nZo will take Black’s place at the event.
Black’s last match in AEW occurred at All Out when he teamed with Brody King and Buddy Matthews to take on Miro, Sting, and Darby Allin. After the match, Black took a bow on top of the entrance ramp and blew a kiss to the crowd. Some thought the goodbye gesture hinted at Black’s departure from the company.
