Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling’s Maki Itoh suffered a partial fracture in her left cheekbone during the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Princess Cup 2021.
Despite the injury, ‘The Cutest Pro Wrestler in the World’ managed to overcome top prospect Suzume and advance to the semi-finals of the tournament.
She’ll be joined there by fellow AEW alumni Shoko Nakajima, Miu Watanabe and Mizuki, who scored an upset victory over the current Princess of Princess Champion, Miyu Yamashita, en route to the semis.
Itoh herself appeared to make light of the injury, attending a press conference for the semi-finals clad in sunglasses and a facemask.
This is not a new gimmick, it's just injury! But now I'm the coolest in the world😎 pic.twitter.com/cUkM9Ga5A3

The DDT/TJPW English Update (D/TEU) twitter account also confirmed that the injury would require two to four weeks of recovery time, though Itoh would be fighting through this in order to make the semi-finals on August 14th at Korakuen Hall.
She will however miss TJPW’s August 7th show from Nagoya as she attempts to recover sufficently ahead of her semi-final clash with Mizuki.
On the other side of the bracket, former Princess of Princess Champion Nakajima will attempt to stem the surge of the exciting Miu Watanabe, who makes the final four for the very first time.
The tournament finals will be contested on the following day, emanating again from Korakuen Hall.
