Maki Itoh made a surprise return to AEW, appearing as the ‘joker’ in the AEW Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
Japanese star Maki Itoh hadn’t been seen on AEW television since March 2021 where she defeated Riho on Dark Elevation, however, if there was ever a time to make a comeback, this was it.
The star sang herself to the ring as usual, before teasing laying down for her former tag team partner, before trying to role up the former Women’s Champion. It was initially all fun and games for Itoh, but the tide turned as she delivered a one-fingered salute to her rival.
The momentum swung back and forth, with the crowd heartily chanting for both women, but it was Baker who eventually scored the win with the Lock Jaw submission, delivering her own middle-finger salute to the camera in the process.
After picking up the win, Baker was confronted by Toni Storm, who she will be facing in the semi-finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

Earlier in the show, the joker in the men’s tournament was revealed to be Johnny Elite, who was known was John Morrison in WWE. The high-flyer went toe-to-toe with the Samoan Submission Machine but it was the Ring of Honor World Television Champion who grabbed the win.
Elsewhere, Kyle O’Reilly advanced in the other quarter-final after seeing off the challenge of Rey Fenix. In the main event Adam Cole defeated Jeff Hardy to become the first man to book himself a spot in the final. He will face Samoa Joe or Kyle O’Reilly.
