Major WWE SummerSlam Rumor Killer On Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes and John Cena fight on WWE SummerSlam

WWE SummerSlam will feature a big WrestleMania 41 rematch as Cody Rhodes challenges John Cena for the Undisputed Championship. The rumor mill has ran rampant on Cody’s future coming out of SummerSlam, but sources have provided an update that will not go over well with many in the WWE Universe.

The American Nightmare finished his story at WrestleMania XL, but one year later he was dethroned by the new heel version of Big Match John. Cody bounced back to become King of the Ring last month, securing a rematch against the Hollywood heavyweight at his final match at The Biggest Party of The Summer. This came with another big endorsement from Triple H.

John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes VII is rumored to headline Night Two of the 38th annual SummerSlam. After the Street Fight stipulation was added and a brutal contract signing went down on Friday’s SmackDown, a shift in SummerSlam betting odds gave Cody a much greater likelihood of leaving MetLife Stadium as a two-time Undisputed Champion.

No Cody Rhodes Heel Turn Currently Planned

John Cena shocked the WWE Universe earlier this year by turning heel, which set up his WrestleMania 41 victory over Cody Rhodes. Now there’s increased rumors and speculation on a potential heel turn for Rhodes.

Many fans and industry insiders expect the former AEW EVP to make a big turn at SummerSlam, which would also turn Cena back babyface for the final half of his retirement year. However, a new report from Bodyslam’s Viper notes that there are currently no plans for a Rhodes heel turn at SummerSlam.

It’s always possible that WWE’s Creative Writing Team is keeping the big double turn close to the vest. Despite the increase in rumors and speculation, there have been no internal signs that the son of Dusty Rhodes will turn on the 17-time World Champion at SummerSlam.
