An update has emerged on the WWE status of Shane McMahon, last spotted at the Royal Rumble, amidst his father’s retirement.
Fightful Select has shed light on where, exactly, Shane McMahon currently stands with WWE. The former SmackDown Tag Team Champion had last been seen at the Royal Rumble, reportedly causing chaos backstage that led to his release.
According to the report, it was Vince McMahon who made the decision to cut his son from WWE. The ex-Chairman reportedly stated that Shane “would never get another pop in this company as long as I’m around”, although this isn’t likely to be the case. Vince’s behaviour is said to have been “extreme, but justified” in the heat of the moment.

Reports emerged soon after the Royal Rumble that Shane McMahon had acted unprofessionally, during which he entered as the 28th entrant. Shane, who was booked as a producer, allegedly booked the latter stages of the match to revolve around him, outstriking former UFC fighter Riddle and dumping Kevin Owens from the ring.
Dave Meltzer stated in that week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Vince McMahon had “no options but to fire him”, painting a damning picture of the drama caused by Shane during the match. Brock Lesnar, the match’s eventual winner, sent the McMahon son packing from the ring as the penultimate elimination.
Prior to his departure from the company, the McMahon son had been penned for an appearance at the Elimination Chamber, as well as a WrestleMania 38 program with Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins.
