A new report has given a huge update on Roman Reigns’ status for SummerSlam, as the Undisputed Universal Champion remains absent from WWE television.
Since defeating Brock Lesnar to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at WrestleMania 38, Roman Reigns is yet to wrestle a singles match on WWE television.
While it had been reported that Reigns would be appearing at less WWE live events, he has also scaled down his appearances on television and other major shows. The star was absent from WWE Hell In A Cell on June 5th, and will also be absent from Money In The Bank on July 2nd, despite previously being advertised for the show.
As speculation continues to swirl around Reigns’ status, Fightful Select have offered an update on the Head of the Table. The report notes that Fightful had originally been informed that Reigns would only be scaling back his house show appearances, while still appearing TV. Although this now doesn’t seem to be true.
Following WWE’s decision to move Money In The Bank from Allegiant Stadium to the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the company believes that the ladder matches themselves are enough to sell the show. The report adds that a WWE rep confirmed that Reigns is expected to appear at SummerSlam.
This tallies with an earlier report which suggested that Reigns will be defending his World Championship against Randy Orton at the summer spectacular.
However, it appears that Roman Reigns will also be defending the Undisputed Universal Championship in the very near future. On the June 10th episode of SmackDown Riddle defeated Sami Zayn to finally earn a shot at Reigns, with the match being scheduled for the June 17th edition of the blue brand.
