Major Update On Mercedes Mone’s Future

Mercedes Mone in NJPW

Despite only wrestling twice so far in 2023, Mercedes Mone remains one of the most talked about female wrestlers in the world.

After leaving WWE, the star headed to NJPW and made her debut at Wrestle Kingdom 17. Mone then made her in-ring debut at Battle in the Valley where she won the IWGP Women’s Title, before following this up with a win at Sakura Genesis.

Following her win, she was quickly challenged by Mayu Iwatani. The match between the pair will take place at STARDOM’s All Star Grand Queendom on April 23rd. It has been widely believed that this will be Mone’s final appearance in Japan, but things might not be that straightforward.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that negotiations are currently ongoing about another match after April 23rd.

“They are in negotiations for one more match.

Her final match of her current contract is the match this coming Sunday at the Yokohama Arena against Mayu (Iwatani) for the IWGP Women’s Title, but they… I do not know if the deal is done, it was not done the last I was told, but she is in talks for one more date.

I don’t know what that date would be, I don’t know if it would be Dominion, or what exactly. So that’s where her situation is right now.”

Mercedes Mone Hits Back At Claims She’s Just The “Female Dean Ambrose”

At a recent press conference hyping her match with Iwatani, Mercedes Mone produced a guitar and sang a song she called “Mayu Sucks.” As the clip made its way around social media, one fan said that she was the “female Dean Ambrose.” Many took this as a reference to the end of Jon Moxley’s time in WWE where he took part in a number of increasingly comedic angles. The fan later claimed the reference was to Moxley and Mone both being worse off after leaving WWE.

In response, Mone said she is more like The Rock.
