Kenny Omega is seemingly edging closer to an in-ring return as a new report offers an update on his current AEW status.
Former AEW Champion Kenny Omega hasn’t appeared on AEW television in person since early November where he announced that he was taking time away to “fix things.” Just days earlier, Omega’s record-breaking World Title run had come to an end at the hands of Hangman Adam Page at Full Gear.
At the time It was noted at the time that Omega was dealing with a number of injuries, including a torn labrum in his shoulder, a hernia and issues with his knees. The star himself also revealed that he had been struggling with vertigo since 2018.
It was originally hoped that he would have been back in action in February, but that loose return date came and went without him reaching for his wrestling boots.
In a fresh update from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, it appears that Omega has now returned to work with AEW, resuming his role backstage. The report notes that Omega has been backstage at a number of recent AEW tapings and has had a hand in producing matches in the women’s division.
At time of writing there remains no firm timetable for his return to the ring.
Kenny Omega was last seen on AEW TV in a pre-taped video package on March 23rd. In the clip, the former New Japan Pro Wrestling star accepted an award for “Wrestler of the Year” for 2021.
In Omega’s absence, Adam Page has continued his run with the World Championship, seeing off challenges from the likes of Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole. Page’s next defence is set to take place at Double or Nothing where he will meet CM Punk.
