It has finally been confirmed that CM Punk will be returning to AEW, but who will he be facing when he gets there?
When it first became clear that Punk was heading towards a return it was reported that Punk was heading for a showdown with Chris Jericho, and this led to a meeting between the two rivals to clear the air. This was followed by reports that he could work with old Ring of Honor rival Samoa Joe.
However, there have now been more names thrown into the mix.
A new report via Fightful Select has claimed that Punk has “taken a liking to the work of Jay White,” and he could be an early opponent, along with Bullet Club Gold.
The report also discussed the presence and role of Ace Steel, who it is noted was seen by those backstage as a “valuable member” of the AEW team prior to the chaos of All Out. Most people that Fightful spoke to said that while the situation likely wouldn’t have blown up as it did if he wasn’t involved, his skillset has been underestimated online.
CM Punk To Be “Heavily Involved” In Creative
The news comes after it was reported that both CM Punk and Ace Steel will be heavily involved in creative on AEW Collision. The report added that Punk and Steel will have “great input” into programs featuring the former World Champion.
Collision is set to launch on June 17th live from the United Center in Chicago.
