On March 2nd it was reported that Jay White is now a free agent.
Switchblade’s future has been a hot topic of conversation in recent months as it appeared that his time with New Japan Pro-Wrestling was coming to an end. To add further intrigue, it was reiterated that WWE has been a long-time admirer of the star. However, he also has connections in AEW, appearing for the promotion in 2022.
White’s exit from NJPW was confirmed with two defeats with two big stipulations. He first lost out to Hikuleo in a ‘Loser Leaves Japan’ match before being defeated by Eddie Kingston at Battle in the Valley on February 18th where the loser would be banished from NJPW.
This naturally led to suggestions that a deal between White and WWE could be imminent. However, that appears to not be the case. In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that many of the people within the company who would be aware of a new signing haven’t heard White’s name mentioned.
“Jay White is now officially a free agent as of 2/28. While all the circumstances seem to indicate he’s headed to WWE, there has still been no confirmation of that. If he is going to WWE, it’s not something well known within the company by many because multiple people who normally know haven’t heard his name mentioned.”
Jay White To Join Kenny Omega In WWE?
The intrigue around potential WWE signings recently kicked into a new gear when it was reported that the company was working on a deal for a different major free agent. This sparked speculation around Kenny Omega after it was revealed that his contract with AEW had been due to expire in January, although an unspecified amount of time has been added due to time he missed through injury.
While WWE’s interest in Omega is no secret, it has been said that the former AEW World Champion would potentially be open to a move to the sports entertainment giant.
