AJ Lee is headed back to WWE. Fans have called for the three-time Divas Champion to make a big comeback ever since she retired in 2015, and now WWE is gearing up for what could be the biggest follow-up to CM Punk’s shocking WWE return.
The Geek Goddess has stayed away from the world of pro wrestling for the most part ever since leaving WWE in April 2015, while staying busy with entertainment writing projects. Lee has made a few convention appearances, portrayed a wrestling couple with her husband on the “Heels” series from Starz, and from October 2021-2023 she worked as an executive producer and commentator for the the broadcast promotion owned by Jeanie Buss and David McLane, WOW: Women of Wrestling.
Rumors and speculation on AJ’s WWE future picked up in a major way after Sunday’s Clash In Paris PLE. After retaining the Women’s Intercontinental Championship in her first-ever singles bout with Nikki Bella earlier in the night, Becky Lynch pulled a big swerve in the main event by helping husband Seth Rollins retain the World Heavyweight Championship over Punk, LA Knight, and Jey Uso.
Big Time Becks cost The Voice of The Voiceless a title win by hitting him with a low blow, then taunting him while Rollins won the match with a Stomp. This was seen as a clear sign of AJ’s WWE return, which Punk teased right after the PLE went off the air. The chatter continued on Monday when the program continued during a live RAW from the French capital.
AJ Lee Set For WWE Wrestlepalooza
AJ Lee and CM Punk are set to team up for the first time since becoming husband and wife. F4W’s Bryan Alvarez adds that the match is currently scheduled to take place at the inaugural WWE Wrestlepalooza PLE on Saturday, September 20 at Gainebridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Black Widow and The Second City Saint are set to do in-ring battle against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch, as expected. It remains to see if AJ will return on RAW in the lead-up to Wrestlepalooza, but this seems likely.
WWE is loading up Wrestlepalooza as this will be its first PLE to air on ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer service under the massive deal between the two companies. Wrestlepalooza will also go head-to-head with AEW All Out in Toronto.
Punk and AJ teamed up for the first time to beat Kane and Daniel Bryan in the RAW main event on June 11, 2012. They then defeated Bryan and Eve Torres in the main event on July 9. Rollins and Lynch defeated Mike and Maria Kanellis in their first outing together during RAW on July 1, 2019. One week later they won an Elimination Match over Andrade and Zelina Vega in the RAW opener, and that came days before defeating Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans at Extreme Rules in a Winner Takes All with their Universal Championship and RAW Women’s Championship on the line.
