It has been reported that a major name has been seen backstage at The Dome at America’s Centre in St. Louis and will appear in the Royal Rumble Match.
Following numerous rumours, PWInsider has reported that the worst kept secret in WWE appears to have been confirmed with Ronda Rousey having arrived backstage at the Royal Rumble.
They go on to say that WWE decided today that Rousey will be a surprise entrant in the Women’s Rumble match. It also notes that the company had been going back and forth on whether she should be in the match itself, or take part in an angle to set up her role at WrestleMania 38.
An earlier report in the Wrestling Observer claimed that the current plan is for Rousey to clash with Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 38. That report also stated that Rousey will have a “substantial run” in WWE as part of the SmackDown roster, and her deal will see her being in the company until WrestleMania 39 in 2023.
Ronda Rousey hasn’t set foot in a WWE ring since April 7th, 2019 at WrestleMania 35 where she was defeated in Triple Threat action by Becky Lynch who captured both Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships with the win in a match that also featured Charlotte Flair.
It was first reported on Fightful Select that WWE had been discussing the possibility of the former Raw Women’s Champion returning to the ring at the Royal Rumble. The report noted that it was a “poorly kept secret” and had even been mentioned to those outside the company.
