WWE is celebrating the return of AJ Lee, which boosts the women’s division right after Naomi begins a hiatus for her first pregnancy. The two veterans have significant ties, and today marks a major milestone in their record-setting careers.
The Glow and The Black Widow have made headlines over the last month, but for very different reasons. Naomi recently announced her pregnancy with Jimmy Uso, and was forced to relinquish the World Women’s Championship, ending her reign at 35 days. Lee finally made her long-awaited WWE comeback on SmackDown, to help husband CM Punk face Becky Lynch and World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. AJ has signed a multi-year contract with WWE, so she will be around more.
AJ joined WWE in May 2009 and began at the FCW developmental territory a few months later. She became Queen of FCW in February 2010 but lost the title 287 days later in November of that year. Naomi was signed in August 2009, and while billed as Naomi Night, she became the inaugural FCW Divas Champion in June 2010. AJ turned heel and feuded with the future Funkadactyl, ending her title reign at 189 days that December. AJ was dethroned 112 days later.
WWE officials brought AJ and Naomi up to the third all-female season of the original NXT concept. Billed as a Rookie, AJ was partnered with Primo, who was her WWE Pro. Naomi was partnered with Kelly Kelly. Kaitlyn and Vickie Guerrero ended up winning season 3, AJ and Primo were eliminated on Week 12, while Naomi and Kelly made it to the finals in Week 13.
Naomi recently made a viral reaction to AJ’s WWE comeback. The two go way back to the FCW days, and appear to be good friends off-screen.
