Major League Wrestling has confirmed their new distribution partner in the United Kingdom and Ireland is set to be The Sports Channel Network.
The deal, which sees the promotion remain available in the majority of British and Irish households via Freeview, continues MLW’s aggressive expansion into international markets.
A source within MLW exclusively told Inside the Ropes:
The key appeal to this deal is that it is a multi-platform deal. MLW has put a big focus on betting on streaming while being mindful of always having a conventional cable/satellite partner. This comprehensive deal provides MLW with a streaming presence on Sports Channel Network’s sister streamer VOD365 as well as Sports Channel Network, which does not require a subscription and is available on FreeView.
Our source also revealed that the announcement was originally planned to be made in conjunction with a live event special emanating from the UK, prior to the international travel restrictions brought in due to the global pandemic.
An event in the UK remains in the League’s plans once the situation subsides.
The Major League Wrestling partnership with The Sports Channel Network follows an acrimonious end to their previous UK & Ireland distribution deal with Freesports (owned by Premier Sports).
Our source noted that they considered the new arrangement to be “significantly more lucrative than the FreeSports deal” and that MLW had not received payment for their content from Premier Sports since the third quarter of 2019.
The news follows Friday’s press release from Impact Wrestling announcing their partnering with Premier Sports as their UK and Ireland distribution partner.
